Message from Group Managing Director

My Dear Family Members,

The year 1997 could not have ended on a more joyous note. It marked the beginning of Ramadhan, the holy month of sacrifice, self purification and acts of generosity, as well as it coincided with the eve of the New Year 1998, the year hopefully filled with lots of promises. I wish our family members at AL ANSARI Alf Mabrook and good luck with lots of best wishes for the above occasions.

I am glad that we have kept our spirit of enthusiasm and promise in coming out with the 8th issue of Al Ansari Update on time. Let us hope that we continue this trend on a regular basis.

The second half of 1997, the period since our previous issue, has in no way been less eventful and exciting.

All the departments have fared well in terms of quantum of work and have surpassed the targets set. I hope the bottom line also is equally exciting!!!

The event which has been our “Numero Uno” is the accreditation of ISO 9002 to our Contracting Division headed by Mr. Yusuf Nalwalla. I sincerely congratulate from the bottom of my heart as well as on behalf of all the staff members of our AL ANSARI FAMILY all the senior and junior staff and entire Contracting Division’s workforce.

They could not have brought fame to our institution in any better way than this. Well done and keep up the good work. We all are proud of you.

It is also very heartening to know that our Associates in Dubai, Kimoha Entrepreneurs, are in the midst of their 10 years celebrations. Theirs has been a stable and encouraging growth. They have made a mark for themselves with their efficient service and products. The completion of 10 years of Kimoha further endorses the stability of our family away from the Sultanate of Oman. My sincere congratulations to the entire Kimoha family.

Kindly accept my gratitude and thanks for a wonderful 1997.

You all have been continuously and sincerely contributing towards the steady growth of our Institution which I always call “A FAMILY”.

This gives the management a sense of pride and joy. May Allah shower the choicest blessings of kindness and happiness on all of us to have the year 1998 full of love and affection towards one another.

Once again a very happy 1998 and God Bless us all.

Kiran Asher

TRADING DIVISION HIGHLIGHTS

The latter half of 1997 saw Trading Division adding several new agencies to its portfolio:

1. Kolon International Corporation – Korea :

A manufacturer of Artificial Turf and Shade Netting. This is an exciting new addition and in a very short span of time the division has already seen a good flow of orders and enquiries.

2. Ceramica Gala – Spain:

A manufacturer of Sanitary ware. This economically priced product gives very good value for money and enables the division to be very competitive in the medical and budget ranges.

3. Ramon Solar – Spain:

A manufacturer of Bathroom Taps. This product again extends the division’s range so that they now have a very attractive package for the medium, commercial and budget customer.

4. Jung Pumpen – Germany:

A manufacturer of Sewage Pumps, promising bright prospects for the division. The year 1997 saw the Trading Division achieving its highest turnover.

Water heaters from “A.O. Smith” did exceedingly well and sales for this line were up. Sanitary ware and Ceramic Tiles lines also notched up brisk sales both in the project and retail segments. “EsCo” Carpet tiles had an outstanding year with the highest sales. Chemicals did well getting good volumes of orders from the Government Sector.

Another area of satisfaction is the growth in the supplies to the oilfield and hardware sector. Pump division executed many projects among which were the PDO Headquarters Building, Oman Newspaper House, SP’s at Nizwa & Sumail, various camps for PDO and LNG vision succeeded in getting “Vogel” Sewage submersible pumps on the PDO approved list.

Al Ansari Sport highlights

The Al Ansari Sports Tournament 1997 was held during August – September 1997. As in the past, a large number of participants contested in the Carrom, Table Tennis and Badminton Tournaments. This year, for the first time, we added Chess in the tournament schedule. A total number of 19 participants, who included children of staff, battled it out eagerly for the top honors, in the Chess Tournament.

Al Ansari In-House Sixes Cricket Tournament:

An In-house cricket tournament for the staff and their families was held on 5th September, 1997 on the PDO grounds. The tournament was played in the Sixes format. Seven teams consisting of 7 players each, contested in the tournament. The distinct features of this tournament were that a lady player was included in each of the teams to give a light and sober touch to the otherwise tense and eagerly fought competition among the teams.

The other feature was of a double wicket competition played between – Mr. Yusuf Nalwalla & Mr. Zohair Ali vs Mr. Kiran N. Asher & Mr. Derek Harman

It was a sort of India v/s England match with the English pair of Mr. Kiran N. Asher and Mr. Derek Harman defeating the Indian pair in a keen tussle. This competition evoked a great response.

All the participants and the spectators enjoyed this concept of the in-house Cricket Tournament and eagerly await the next one to be held.

Congratulation’s to Al Ansari cricket team!

The Al Ansari Cricket Team, fresh from its championship success in the “B” Division of the Oman Cricket Club League last year, has finished as Runners-up in the “B” Division this year.

Blood Donation Camp!

A Blood Donation Camp was held on 25th October 1997 at Ghala Staff Camp Recreation Room. A total number of 47 donors came forward to support this charitable cause.
